Resilient Spirit: GDC Sidhra Students Excel inSports amid Challenges
‘The field of play is where character isforged and courage is revealed.’
Sports are morethan just physical activity. They arenot merely games—they are powerful teachers of endurance, resilience, discipline, teamwork and leadership. They challenge individuals to pushtheir limits, overcome obstacles, and learn the value of perseverance,preparing students for life beyond the classroom.
These very values came alive when GDC Sidhra faced one of itstoughest challenges. Despite the recent floods that submerged the collegecampus, and consequent relocation of the college at Maulana Azad MemorialCollege, our students displayed exceptional determination and composure.Theyrefused to let adversity dampen their spirit. On the contrary, theyparticipated in the Inter Collegiate Tournaments including Gatka, Cricket andWeight Lifting organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, atthe University of Jammu with remarkable enthusiasm and sportsmanship. They bitthe bullet, overcame logistical hurdles, and continued their rigorous practicesessions with unshaken resolve displaying remarkable grit, focus, andcommitment that mirrored the very essence of sportsmanship. Their hard workbore fruit and their stellar performances brought laurels and medals to thecollege. Their achievements stand as a glowing testament of not just theirathletic excellence but also their indomitable will, perseverance, unity, andunbreakable spirit—qualities that define great athletes.
On 24th September 2025, the Gatka Inter-Collegiate Tournament was held, in which SapinderPal Singh and Harvinder Singh, students of B.Com Semester I, participated andearned distinction for the college by winning the Silver Medal in the teamevent.
The Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament match between GDC Sidhra and GDC Darmari was played on 29thSeptember 2025.After winning the toss, GDC Sidhra elected to bat first and seta target of 179 runs.ThoughGDCDarmari emerged victorious by one wicket, it was a neck to neck contest.
Another activity, the Inter-CollegiateWeight Lifting Tournamentfor the session 2025–26 was held on6th October 2025. Three students from GDC Sidhra participated in the men’ssection of the event and displayed remarkable strength and determination. Major Singh of B.A. Semester V made thecollege proud by winning the Bronze Medal in the 65 kg weight category. PankajKumar, an alumnus of the college and a former student of B.A. Semester VI, madethe institution proud by clinching the Gold Medal in the 87 kg weight category.Their commendable performances reflect the institution’s growing excellence insports and fitness.
On 14th of October 2025, Studentsof GDC Sidhra participated in Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Tournament 2025-26,held at Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu. Mr.Dheeraj Sharma student of B.A Semester 1st won 1st matchagainst GDC Hiranagar by one bouts (8-0)and also won 2nd match against GDC Khour by single bouts (8-0).
On 15th of October 2025, Studentsof GDC Sidhra participated in Inter-Collegiate Badminton Tournament 2025-26,held at Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu. Matchplayed between GDC Sidhra Vs Dogra Law College Jammu, Dogra Law College Jammudefeated GDC Sidhra by 2-0.
